We are drowning in the tears of suffering and the mud of lust, living in that scene, we hardly see the bright, peaceful shore to wade in. How pitiful for our human condition. But we don't have that! We, from beginningless time, have been in the place where the source of truth is quiet, infinitely wise. Because of an unconscious thought, ignorance and delusion arise, so we are reeling in samsara, floating in the three realms of the six paths. So, who among us does not want to get out of this dark and painful realm, to return to the source of light, happily? But how to get out? Who will be merciful to show us the way? Who has enough magical methods to help us get out of samsara? The one who is wise and capable is none other than the Buddha Shakyamuni, who has witnessed the fruit of birth and death; and only his teachings can save sentient beings from impermanence and suffering. Then why do we hesitate to take refuge in the Triple Gem? B. MAIN TOPIC I. INDICATIONS AND EXPLANATIONS 1. What does taking refuge mean? Quy is to return; He is to take refuge, to take refuge is to return and take refuge in the place where he has left because of his delusion, wanderlust, and left, like a foolish child who left his parents to go wild, now knowing the foolishness. Due to the experience of suffering, he returned to take refuge in the happy and loving shadow of his parents. The word Refuge originally translates the meaning of the Sanskrit word Namo. Taking refuge also means obeying or submitting. 2. What does Tam Bao mean? The Three Jewels are three precious persons: Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. In the world, gold, silver, jade, and fame are precious. But the truth, gold and silver, and fame do not save people from suffering, life, old age, sickness, and death, but sometimes make people suffer more! The Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha are capable of leading people out of the above-mentioned sufferings. Therefore, new people worship Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha as the precious trinity (Three Jewels). a) Buddha: The word Buddha is transliterated by the Sanskrit word Bouddha. The Chinese translate as Enlightenment; The French translates as L'Illuminé. Those three words all mean the same thing: fully enlightened in three aspects: self-awareness, enlightenment, and perfect enlightenment. b) Dharma: Dharma is translated by the Sanskrit word Dharma. The Dharma is the method of practice that the Buddha has developed to eliminate all confusion, suffering and attain Buddhahood. The three classics are collectively known as the Dharma. c) Sangha: Sangha or Sangha is due to the Sanskrit Sangha that is transliterated; Chinese translation is: harmonize them, that is, a group of monks from 4 people coming up, living together in the same place, keeping the Buddha's precepts, and harmoniously sharing what they have received. , from physical to spiritual. 3. What is taking refuge in the Three Jewels? To take refuge in the Three Jewels is to return to take refuge in the three precious persons: Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Why take refuge in Buddha? - Because the Buddha is the one who is completely lucid, infinitely compassionate, infinitely blessed, and full of virtue; Because Buddha is the greatest guide, has had the experience of escaping from the cycle of birth and death to witness the Way. Why take refuge in the Dharma? Because only the Buddha's method is sufficient to bring us through the ocean of suffering, to the shore of liberation. Why take refuge in the Sangha? - Because the Sangha is the one who sacrificed his family, money, fame... to volunteer for the Buddha to lead sentient beings on the path. II. THREE FUCKING TAM Bao The Three Jewels have three levels: – The same Three Jewels. - Out of the world of the Three Jewels. - World Abbot of the Three Jewels. 1. THREE BOARDS a) The same Buddha Bao, that is, all sentient beings and the Buddhas have the same clear nature. b) The same Dharma, which means that all sentient beings and Buddhas have the same compassion and equality. c) The same Sangha, that is, all sentient beings and Buddhas have the same pure nature; harmony, reason. 2. OUT OF THE THREE WORLD THREE BOARDS Out of the world The Three Jewels: a) Out of the world Buddha treasures, is only for Buddha Shakyamuni, Buddha Amitabha, Buddhas in the ten directions and three times have freed themselves from the bondage of the world. b) Out of the world, the Dharma is only for the Buddha's true dharma, has the ability to make living beings free from the bondage of the world, such as the Four Truths, the Twelve Destinations, the Six Degrees, etc. c) Out of the world Increase Bao, is only for saints who have escaped from the bondage of the world such as Avalokitesvara, Dai-The-Chi, Man-Thu, Ca-Diep, An-Nan etc... 3. THE The world's abbot of the Buddha Bao is only for the relics of the Buddha, the Buddha statue made of metal, carved with famous wood, painted with earth, covered with cement, embroidered with cloth, or painted on paper. b) The world's abbot of the Dharma, is only for the three canonical books: Sutra, Vinaya, and Commentary, written or printed on paper, on canvas, on fallen leaves, etc. A bhikkhu practices righteously, with pure morality, solemn precepts in the present. III. Taking refuge in the Three Jewels After understanding what it means to take refuge in the Three Jewels, of course you must practice that understanding. Practicing the Three Refuges with respect and obedience to the Three Jewels is called taking refuge in the Three Jewels. 1. Taking refuge in the Buddha: Every day we must always remember the Buddha, recite his name, admire his statue, wholeheartedly worship him to show his respect, and vow to follow in his footsteps for the rest of our lives. That is taking refuge in the Buddha. 2. The Dharma refuge: Daily chanting and reading of sutras, laws, and essays on black and white paper; Early in the second day of practice, learn the profound meaning of the Dharma as much as possible, not knowing the meaning of mere chanting is not useless. When reciting and reading sutras, our minds do not think of lewd thoughts, do not remember bad things, do not discuss schemes to gain selfishness and harm. We get rid of desires, our minds are clear, peaceful, and pure. 3. Taking refuge in the Sangha: The world often says: "Respect the Buddha, respect the Sangha". Therefore, if we sincerely worship the Buddha, we must be so earnestly Sangha. Those who practice taking refuge in the Sangha, whenever they see a person with a round head, square shirt, genuine practice, and keeping the precepts, immediately respect and respect him as a representative of the Buddha. To do so is to take refuge in the Sangha. In short, worshiping Buddha bones, Buddha images, chanting sutras, observing the precepts of studying Buddhism, respecting the true Sangha, that is taking refuge in the Three Jewels, or roughly speaking, following Buddhism. IV. LY GUYS TAM BAO LY is inside. Taking refuge in the Three Jewels means taking refuge in the Three Jewels in our mind. If we only practice taking refuge, only chasing the outer Three Jewels, but forgetting the reason for taking refuge, That is, forgetting the Three Jewels inside our mind, then we have not properly practiced the Three Refuges. Indeed, within our mind there are also the Three Jewels. We need to practice the practice of taking refuge, or the three refuges: taking refuge in the Buddha, taking refuge in the Dharma, and taking refuge in the Sangha. 1. Taking refuge in the Buddha: Self means self towards self. To take refuge in the Buddha is to return to the enlightened Buddha nature of our own mind. Yes, everyone has Buddha nature, and everyone can become a Buddha. That is what Shakyamuni Buddha taught. But that Buddha-nature is confused and covered by delusion. Hope is like a cloudy cloud, Buddha nature is like the moon. Clouds can obscure, but not destroy the bright moon. Our Buddha-nature, no matter how deeply obscured by delusions and ignorance, still remains. Then why do we forget our Buddha-nature, but only run after the Buddha outside; like a "dead man" with a precious jewel, his parents have hidden in the cross of his shirt without knowing it, and go begging everywhere! 2. Taking refuge in the Dharma: Taking refuge in the Dharma is obeying one's own Dharma nature. In the mind there are enough Dharmas of Compassion, Wisdom, Equality, Patience, Effort... We need to promote those qualities and act according to them, obey them; such as taking refuge in the Dharma. 3. Taking refuge in the Sangha: Taking refuge in the Sangha is obeying the teacher in your heart. The teacher in our mind is our pure and harmonious quality, just like the Sangha is the embodiment of the outer pure harmony. For a long time because I was confused, I did not see the teacher in my heart, now thanks to the Buddha's instruction, I can see that pure teacher, then I have to take refuge in my teacher first! In short, we have to rely on, return to the Buddha in the mind is the clear nature; with his Dharma are the virtues of Compassion, Happiness, etc…; with his Sangha is his harmony and purity. That is the way to take refuge in the Three Jewels. V. RETURNS OF REWARDING After we have clearly understood the Principles and Reasons of taking refuge, we need to know through the ritual of taking refuge. 1. We must first wash our body and mind to be clean. Taking refuge is the most important ceremony on our spiritual path. It is a departure to the goal of liberation, so we cannot ignore it, celebrate it indiscriminately. When we want to take refuge, we have to dress neatly, buy a ceremony tray to invite the monks to the road, pay respects and beg the monks to have compassion and pass on the precepts for us. Before the ceremony, our body and mind must be washed clean. I showered and dressed neatly. It is about Body; As for the Mind, we must repent three times, for the three karmas to be purified. Thanks to that cleansing both inside and out, We deserve to receive the noble and pure Dharma of the Three Jewels. 2. Vow When it's time to take refuge, we must kneel down; Following the instructions of the monks, sincerely made a vow: - The disciple would like to take refuge in the Buddha for the rest of his life. - The disciple would like to take refuge in the Dharma for the rest of his life. - The disciple asks to take refuge in the Sangha for the rest of his life. After making a vow to the Three Refuges, the aspirant firmly believes that he or she has sown the seeds of liberation and will surely reap the good results of escaping from the three evil paths: hell, hungry ghosts, and animals. Therefore, the person taking refuge immediately said three times: - The disciple has taken refuge in the Buddha and will not fall into hell. - The disciple has taken refuge in the Dharma, not falling into the hungry ghost. - The disciple has taken refuge in the Sangha, from the rebirth of animals. That is the complete Tam Quy and Tam Kiet. In order to preserve his lofty ideals and keep his faith on the path, one strongly and sincerely takes refuge voluntarily: – Disciples take refuge in the Buddha, vow not to take refuge in gods, gods, demons and animals for the rest of his life. - Disciples take refuge in the Dharma, vowing not to take refuge in non-Buddhists and heretics for life. - Disciples take refuge in the Sangha, vowing not to take refuge in harms or evil parties for the rest of their lives. Thus, the ceremony of taking refuge was completed. The believer only has to do according to the words he has vowed and swore before the Three Jewels. BECAUSE. BENEFITS OF SUCCESSFUL RESULT 1. Don't go astray in life into a dark place As we have seen in the opening paragraph of this article, sentient beings are diving in the sea of ​​suffering, are helpless and lost in the middle of the vast dark night. In such tragic circumstances, if we don't see the means to go, no teachers to guide us, then we will spin forever in the sea of ​​samsara. That bright end is the Buddha, those means are the Dharma, and those guiding teachers are the Sangha. When we know there are such treasures and do not grasp them, it is like a drowning man who sees a wooden raft by but foolishly pushes it away. Taking refuge is a way of clinging to the raft of the Three Jewels that Buddha invented to save those who are about to drown in the sea of ​​life, all of us. 2. When we have made a vow to take refuge, it is easy for us to keep our promises, because there is the proof of the Buddhas and the Sangha. Someone said: “I respect the Buddha, because I know that he is a fully enlightened being; I respect the Dharma because I know that the Dharma is capable of bringing people to liberation; I respect the Sangha because I know that they are the representatives of the Buddha. Knowing that is enough, why do you need to take the vows of taking refuge?" Saying that is not enough psychological value of the promise, the oath in front of others. When we made a promise to someone, and we broke the promise, then our souls are restless, regretful and insecure. Having made a promise, we all have the obligation to fulfill our promise, if we fail to promise, we will all despise ourselves. Especially when that promise or vow is celebrated in a solemn setting in front of the Buddha's temple, above with the witness of the Buddhas, below with the witness of the monks, surrounded by the protection and remembrance of relatives and friends. belong; make a vow in that context, of course we can hardly disobey our vow, or neglect it. So knowing that the Three Jewels are precious, of course we have to take refuge in the Three Jewels and celebrate the refuge ceremony in a dignified way. C. CONCLUSION: Advise believers to take refuge in both reason and progress in taking refuge. We have seen; If you are a Buddhist, you must take refuge. Taking refuge must have enough Truth and Reason. Don't completely depend on the outside but neglect the inside. Just as you should not completely respect your own self and despise the outside. If you want to take refuge, you must first solemnly take refuge to mark your first step on the path to liberation. The ceremony is like a farewell ceremony for a person who has gone to receive a new task. But once he has set foot on the road, he must wander, determined to quickly reach the destination, not wait, turn back and forth in one place, or turn another way. Having made a vow to take refuge without following the footprints left by the Buddha, not looking into the shining example of the Buddha that has been raised, not following the teachings but training the character; If you don't keep the precepts, don't obey the instructions of the monks, you are deceiving yourself and others, and the harm is even greater than not taking refuge. On the contrary, if we take refuge and practice according to our vows, the path to liberation, no matter how far, will one day see the goal.
