The ideal Buddhist should be one who takes refuge in the Three Jewels (and observes the five precepts). Taking refuge in the Three Jewels is to orient a right path, to be able to develop authentic bodhichitta. Taking refuge in the Three Jewels is the first step, but also the ultimate path to liberation, Nirvana. On the way to practice the path - Taking refuge is understood as "returning to take refuge". Buddhists rely on the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha to serve as a model and a stepping stone for the liberation of suffering. Relying does not mean relying on. Reliance is a special need. When it rains, I take refuge in a roof; hungry and thirsty, we rely on a restaurant; In the dark, we rely on a guru… In life, we have to rely on many things, from essential and urgent needs to spiritual development. The Buddha is a master, a man of perfect wisdom, peace, freedom, liberation. So, Buddha is the destination of each of us (all sentient beings can become Buddhas). Meanwhile, Dharma is the way, the map; and the Sangha are the guides, or more closely, the wise companions. In short, the Three Jewels are the most worthy place for us to take refuge. “I find a purpose by taking refuge in the Buddha. I found a method by taking refuge in the Dharma. And we create the right circumstances for our practice by taking refuge in the Sangha. Taking refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha is practicing the spiritual path or path leading to Buddhahood.” Buddha taught: "Whoever takes refuge in the Buddha / Dharma and the Sangha / Who uses Right View / Sees the Four Truths / Sees Suffering and the Origin of Suffering / Sees the overcoming of suffering / Sees the Noble Eightfold Path / Leads to suffering take refuge / Take refuge in peace / Take refuge in the ultimate / Take refuge in this way / Just get rid of all suffering. He also affirmed: Those who take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha will not fall down. When they give up this body, they will be reborn in the heavenly world. From those benefits, those who have taken refuge in the Three Jewels should understand and practice diligently according to the Three Refuges; Those who have turned to the Buddha but have not yet taken refuge should take refuge in the Three Jewels. Currently, there are many people who, although going to pagodas and being vegetarian for many years, are still "afraid" of upholding the Tam Quy - Five Precepts, because they are afraid of not keeping the dharma precepts they have lived. However, being a Buddhist, even though "disappeared", still achieves more benefits than not observing the Three Refuges - Five Precepts. need to understand and diligently practice according to the Three Rules; Those who have turned to the Buddha but have not yet taken refuge should take refuge in the Three Jewels.
