The second book Lesson 41 THE FIRST BUDDHA FIRST INTO CHINA The Buddha Dharma was initially introduced into China, according to history recorded in the late Han Dynasty Ming Dynasty 10th year of Yongping (before the Republic of China 1978 years), Emperor Han Ming Emperor because he dreamed of a golden man, he sent Thai Fan, Vuong to obey... all 18 people went to Thien Tru to pray for Buddha Dharma. Going to Thien Truc to meet Ca Lettuce and Truc Phap Lan, that year invited them to China, everywhere the people were happy. The king built Bach Ma pagoda on the outskirts of Lac Duong city and invited them to translate the scriptures here. The Sutras of the two have been translated into 14 volumes. There are still the Fourteen Chapters and the Buddhist scriptures in addition to other translations no longer available, but this theory is based on the king's devotion. transmitted to China during the reign of the Han Dynasty, in fact, Buddhism was soon influenced by Buddhism in the human world. Now summarize these events as follows. 1. In the book Lieh Tu, there is a passage: "This stage is heard in the West that there are saints who do not rule but do not panic, do not speak but confidently, do not teach but follow by themselves". The above paragraph can be seen that Confucius meant to refer to Buddha and Confucius who appeared at the same time (Confucius was born 30 years after the Buddha). 2. In the Sutra of Luc Chau, there is a passage: "... In the 4th year, there was a monk who lost profit in the Western region, along with 18 people who brought Buddhist scriptures to China, and the King of Qin considered it strange and put him in prison. then released and sent abroad…”. 3. Wei letter Thich Lao chi wrote: "Buddhist theory heard in the Pre-Han Dynasty, Emperor Wu in the year of the Yuan Beast, Emperor Con Ta was bestowed by King Con Ta to a man of gold more than a zhang tall, which Emperor Wu considered a great deity. worship at Cam Tuyen palace early in the evening, burn incense to worship, because it is possible to know that Buddhism has gradually returned to China." 4. Also in Thich Lao Chi, there is a passage: "The king of the Western regions sent Truong Khiem to Dai Ha, Truong Khiem returned to say: In the land of Poisonous Body (India) there is a Buddhist religion ...". 5. In the Pre-Han Dynasty, God Emperor Luu directed the editing of books in the Mainland, authoring Lie Xian's Tale with the passage: "I checked the collection of histories and compiled Lie Fairy Tales. Judging from the reign of Emperor Huynh until now, the number of people who have attained enlightenment is more than 700, checked to see if it is true, 146 of them have more than 70 people who have seen Buddhist scriptures…” 6. Wei letter Thich Lao Chi said: "The time of Ai Emperor Canh donated King Dai Hum's name to the Sutra Sutra". The above six theories are only due to hearing a little of the Buddha's name from the Chinese people, so it is clear that Buddhism was introduced early and it was only during the Han dynasty that the emperor was worshiped by the court. beliefs and scripture translation. After that, more than 80 years later, An High, Chi Lau Ca Ginseng ... came to China to translate the classics. Lesson 42 IN THE EARLY TIME OF TRANSFORMATION AND TRANSLATION OF THE Suttas Chinese Buddhism was transmitted from India, and that transmission cannot be excluded from the translation of the Sutras, that is, the influence of the doctrine on interpretation. The great translator can be called the founder of the sect. Therefore, the history of Chinese Buddhism says that the interpreter is also a person with profound knowledge. The translators of the scriptures are many, but among them the most influential are Kumarajiva, Emperor, Xuanzang, and Real No, within the scope of this article, we only talk about the first period, or the period from La Cross. before. La Cross went to China in the Dao Qin Dynasty in the 3rd year of the Hoang Thinh (Dong Tan An Emperor in the 5th year of Long An), about 260 to 270 years after Chi ca la thundered, During this time, there were foreign scholars who came to China to translate the classics, knowing the names of more than 60 people, in fact the translators did not stop at this number. In addition, there are foreign laypeople who come to China to translate scriptures, and their children continue to pursue translation careers. At that time, interpreting did not have a royal protection and a certain position, only in places where it was popularized but also translated as an interpreter. Therefore, there are places where the monastery is established, there are places in the scriptures that translate a few chapters, there are places where the name of the translator is not recorded, there are places where the name is the same but the other person is different, so apart from more than 60 of them, it is difficult for us. know the quantity clearly. In what doctrine do the interpreters propagate? Is this also hard to determine? In general, most of the successors to the successors follow the Hinayana teachings, such as the three books Truong a function, The Middle Ages and the Most Disciplined Sangha were taught by the Sangha, and the Buddhas who translated the Five Laws were all Ke Tan people, the First Buddhas translated the Ten Laws, and the Buddhas who translated the Five Laws were also the New People. In addition, the Buddha Da Xa also translated the Four Laws, and the Sangha asked her to translate the Ca sheep Dien A Pi Dam. The person who translates the relics of Buddha Abhidhamma is Dam ma da Xa who is also a Ke Tan. In addition, scholars from Trung Thien Tru to the majority have translated the Mahayana sutras; Scholars from An Ti, Nguyet Chi, Western Region, and Vu Chi are all the same. But among the translators at that time, the most prominent ones were: one was Chi Lau ca thunder, the other was Canh thi le mi da la, the third was Cuma la cross, and the fourth was Buddha da da Xa (Giac sage). ), the year is Dam without thunder… Besides, scholars from the An ie, Khuong ... come, translate the scriptures in both Mahayana and Hinayana. Bamboo Dharma protector is a great person who propagates the Mahayana, People call him Dunhuang Bodhisattva. His ancestor, the Nguyet Chi, migrated to Dunhuang and gave birth to Phap Ho, because he left home as a disciple of Truc Phap court, so he took the surname Truc. He has been to Western countries to study Buddhism, fluent in all 30 foreign languages. From the reign of Emperor Jinwu to Emperor Mandi over a period of more than 40 years, he pursued a career as a translator, translating a total of more than 160 volumes out of 300. In the Tripitaka, it says: "Hard work with spreading the Dharma as a career, translating and translating all your life without ever getting tired of it. The reason why the sutras spread to China was largely thanks to the efforts of the Fa. household". Considering the Dunhuang and Gaochang areas west of Gansu, before the Han martial emperors, they were all in the Western region, and then they were imported into the Chinese territory, during the Five Lakes period Luong, Later Luong, Bac Luong, Tay Luong, etc. Nam Luong is sandy and has a rise and fall here, this area is very close to the Western region, so it soon influenced Buddhism. Scholars in this locality who had studied abroad in the West, returned to pursue a career in interpreting a lot, such as Truc ma la la, during the Northern Luong period, there was a butt-expensive assistant, an assistant Kinh Thanh, etc. popular. In which countries such as Western Region, Vu Chan, An Tich, Khuong Cu, Nguyet Chi ... today are the capital of Xinjiang and the surrounding areas of Xinjiang. Thien Tru is India's proper name, Ke Tan is also in the Indian territory. In this era, most of the monks have the An surname like An The Cao… the Chi family like Chi Khiem, Chi Luong… or the Khuong family name like Khuong Sang Hoi… or the Truc family name like Truc Phap protector… The reason why they have such surname want to name their own country, secondly, after leaving home, take the teacher's family name as their family name. At the time of Dao Qin Dao An, a man read the Sutra of Tang Nhat Nhat Hanh and discovered the sentence "Four Ha entered the sea, did not serve Ha Nam, four natures left home, and they were called Thich Tu" (Four rivers to the sea do not have their own names, four they all ordained as Thich), from then on, the monastics took the last name Thich as their last name. Lesson 43 THE FOUR GENERAL TRANSLATIONS OF LIFE TAN STRATEGY OF LA TEEN 1. Kumarajiva translates the Prajnaparamita sutras and treatises such as the Great Wisdom Doctrine, the Middle Commentary, the Hundred Commentaries, the Twelve Discourses, etc., all belong to the Dharma system. In fact, the general theory of Long-shou, later in China formed a large system divided into three sects, namely Thien Thai School, Three Commentaries School, and Zen Buddhism. So now tell this story. 2. Kumarajiva, in addition to the Prajnaparamita Sutra, also translates the Dharma flower, he often thinks that the Prajnaparamita policy is to wipe out delusion, the Dharma flower is to show the end, These sutras have been translated by many people before and after the La Cross, but not as much as the most influential Latin translation. 3. Talk about thunder and translate the Nirvana Sutra. The Sanskrit version was brought by Tri Minh from India to Cao Xuong, when Dam came to the North, the owner asked him to translate. In which, the text of the sutra explains the doctrines of the permanent Dharma body, immortality of the Dharma body, Necessary sentient beings, Buddha nature, etc., which are related and have a great influence on the issue of Buddhahood. This sutra has been translated by many people before and after Dam No Thunder, but it is not as influential as the one that has the greatest influence. 4. Buddha da dala translates the Luc Cross Flowers of the scriptures. Each version of the sutra was extracted and translated very soon, after being translated into 60q by the French leader who studied abroad in the West, met the full version in Vu Chan and brought it back to China in accordance with the Buddha's words. Although this translation is not equal to the translation of the Eight Crosses of Hoa Nghiem, but because of its early circulation, it has a great influence, such as Do Thuan, Tri Nghiem, etc., all based on the translation that established a sect, so it should be narrated. this version. Kumarajiva was a group of people who, at a young age, left home with his mother to travel through the countries of the New and Western regions to study Buddhism. At first, he specialized in the study of Hinayana sutras, then turned to Mahayana. Meeting when China had a rebellion in the Five Lakes, 16 countries launched an army to invade each other, Qin Fu Kien established a country in Truong An, sent La Quang to bring troops to conquer the West to capture La Cross back to China. When he met during the war, Kien's naval force was weak, so he could not resist. Later Qin Dao took over Truong An. At that time, La Quang was taking troops to conquer the west to destroy Cuu Tu and captured La Cross... La Quang heard that there was a great rebellion in the north, Phu Kien was dead. immediately occupied the western region to establish a country named Hau Luong, La Cross had to stay here. When Dao died, his son Dao Hung succeeded to the throne to try to revive Buddhism, later La Quang lost Dao Hung to bring La Cross back to China. Dao Hung is extremely happy and respectful of La Cross, taking Tay Minh Cac and Tieu Dao Vien as the ashrams for the Transcendental Translator, and performing the teaching of translation. There are up to 3000 disciples, of which 800 are enlightened, taking Dao birth, Tang million, Dao Dung, Sangha, Dam photo, Hue Nghiem, Hue Quan, Tang pure as the top leader and is respected by everyone as the bowl. exhausted. From the 3rd year of Hoang Thi La Cross to Truong An until the 11th year of his death, in the 8 years period of the sutras, he translated more than 380 q, and died at the end of his life without burning his tongue. Northern Buddhism at this time was more powerful than 10 years, The power like the sun shining on the top is not very respected by all circles, but the profound doctrine of this time has made a great change in Chinese culture, from then on people worshiped Buddhism as the no subject, isn't it due to the efforts of La Cross! Lesson 44 Long Tho's teaching was transmitted to China VERY EARLY. Long Tho's non-formalist doctrine was introduced into China, although it took the La Cross as the center, but in fact it was introduced very early. Like Dao An spreading and promoting Mahayana Buddhism, most of them used the theory of voidness and formlessness, but at that time the scriptures were not transmitted much, so sometimes missionaries had to borrow Laozhuang language to explain. Like Truc Phap Nha, Khuong Phap Lang all promote the way of meaning, because most of them use Lao Trang language to interpret Buddhist scriptures, sometimes fall into inexplicable panic; At this stage, the signless emptiness of Nagarjuna has three theories. 1. Duties theory. Similar to Old Age theory, which holds that the starting point of heaven and earth is existence and non-being, forming the theory of existence of all things. The Chinese treatise said that this was the theory of the shaman Sam, and the new theory that the Truc was wasteful. But Truc Phap Thap and Dao An are classmates, so I have a difference. The Trung Treatise says that although the theory of Dao An is a fundamental principle, it is different from that of Sam shaman, because the theory of Dao An along with the theory of all dharmas, the nature of the voidness of the Dragon School, is the same. scholars agree. This is a natural treatise on the nature of Truc dharma waste, which is also different from the theory of Sam shaman. 2. Theory of mind. Not in the Buddhist sense, means being indifferent to everything, but everything has never been empty. That is, no mind, not no scene. The story of Cao Sang said that this legend was immortalized in Kinh Chau. At that time, Dao An and Truc Phap sent out from Tuong Duong to Kinh Chau, heard this false doctrine, and sent his disciple Dam Nhat to persuade but could not. After Hue Vien obeyed Dao An and Truc Phap to ask questions, Dao Hang could not answer because this theory of mind ceased from there. 3. The theory of color. That is, form means emptiness, if the mind does not grasp then form cannot be form, so form means emptiness. The New Sutras said that this is the theory of Chi (Dao Lam). But Gia Tuong believes that Quan Noi's theory of identity (Quan Noi means Quan Trung, only Hiep Tay Ham Coc in this region) and Chi-form theory are different. Chi Dumpling before the work of Immortal Sac Du Huyen, narrates the meaning of instant form, The Madhyamika says that this theory admits the existence of hypocrisy and dharmas. In fact, the Prajnaparamita commentator agrees with this view. The story of Cao Sang said that Vu Phap Lan, a disciple of Vu Phap declared at Nguyen Hoa Pagoda on Diem Thach Thanh Mountain, then moved to Linh Thuu Bach Son Pagoda, often arguing with Chi Dao Lam about meaning or not. Therefore, if according to Gia Tuong, the theory of Chi Release is correct, then the theory of Vu Phap is of course different. Of the three theories above, except for Dao An's theory of origin and form and Chi's theory of form and form, in the Untruthful Commentary of Sangha, there is a major narration and an argument against this theory of mindlessness. In summary, examining these theories are all different interpretations of Nagarjuna's signless-emptiness meaning as presented below. * The original nature of the universe is not due to the origin of all things, which is the meaning of no Buddhism (wrong). * The mind does not have no objects because the mind leaves the attachment to things, which means that there is no Buddhist study (wrong). * That is, if the mind does not attach to it, then everything has no origin, meaning that it is not Buddhist (similar). Observing the above chart, we can know that the theories before La Cross were all meant to argue about the meaning of "emptiness", only Dao An, Chi and the theory of La Cross propagated, without how much difference. That confirms that the theory of Dao An and Chi Release belongs to the lineage of Long Tho's "Vacuum - Dieu friends" theory and is not necessarily spread after the La Cross period to China. Lesson 45 THE ORIGINAL OF Zen Buddhism The first person to spread the intention to learn to China was An The Cao, An The Cao translated Dai An Ban Thu Yi Sutra, Meditating on the Thirty Seven Sutras. The second person is Chi thunder, Thunder has translated Zen sutras. The third person is Chi Khiem, Khiem has translated Tu practice means sutras, Zen secret essential sutras. The fourth person is Khuong Sangha, who translates the Tu Zen Sutra. The fifth person is Truc Phap Ho, who translates the Dharma of contemplating the sutras, and cultivates morality. The five above are very adept at studying concentration, so the scriptures they translate are mostly Zen sutras. Today, we want to seek to study concentration, of course for the above sutras we need to pay attention to study. Enlightenment of Zen Buddhism in China has always been revered as the Dalai Lama. But going back to the origin of Zen learning, Dao An is the earliest, because the origin of Zen studies comes from the Prajñāpāramitā sutra, which is 19 volumes over 20q. sutras, he is a person who has a wish to transcend the world, nature likes frugality, serenity, and strength in the Prajnaparamita meditation practice, this is recognized by everyone. In the preface to the commentary on the Prajnaparamita Sutra, it is written: "The first step is to hurt yourself until you reach the place of non-action. Next, forget yourself and forget yourself to the point of no-sex. Invisibility should be invisible without cause, celibacy should be harmless without running after. Being invisible for no reason, you can forget things, if you don't run after it, you can succeed in work." Through the passage we can know that Dao An thought has a great influence on Zen Buddhism. Spreading Zen learning after Dao An must include two people, La Cross and Giac sien. In addition to transmitting the Prajnaparamita, it also propagates the meditation sutras, the La Cross sutras translate in addition to the Dharma Flower, and the Prajnaparamita also translates the sutras such as the Zen Secrets of the Dharma Sutra, the Meditation of the Samadhi Sutra, the Compendium of the Meditations, and the Compendium of the Law. Thinking briefly about the Dharma... this is the origin of the combination of Prajna and Zen studies. Giac sages, the successors, first followed the Buddha's great predecessors to study the Buddha's teachings, and then went to China to propagate the religion. At first, most of the people who studied with him in the north like Tri Nghiem… at that time Dao Sinh had left the La Cross group and after being chased out by his fellow disciples, he went to Lo Son to combine with Giac sien, then before that The work of Enlightenment into Buddhism. What can Daoists learn from Giac sage? This is not clear, but surely he was influenced more or less by the thought of Enlightenment, which is natural. To sum up, the Dao Born Buddha's thought of enlightenment is to summarize the system of Prajnaparamita of La Cross and Giac sage and combine meditation to form a system of Prajna meditation, this point is no longer in doubt. In the Cao Sangha story, it is said about the Buddha's enlightenment as follows: “Always happy to say: if you look at the picture, you have to know what you mean, then you have to forget the picture. Words must be clear to reason, then words must be forgotten. Since the classics were transmitted to the East, the Chinese people in translation encountered many obstacles, most of them stagnated in literature but did not clarify the meaning, only by forgetting to fish, only words could be suitable. religion". Because of this, compared to the real world, by contemplating cause and effect, good words will not receive retribution, and will be enlightened and become a Buddha. The Dao-born doctrine of enlightenment and becoming a Buddha was opposed by many people at the time. After the birth of Dao took 23 years, Emperor Song wanted to listen to Dao's thought of Donating Enlightenment to become a Buddha. At that time, all of you like the Sangha ... all objected, Emperor Van said, "If the Dao is still alive, you will subjugated”. After Emperor Tong asked who would inherit the idea of Dao being born with Hue Quan, Hue reflected: "That is a disciple of Dao born, or Dao giving". On that occasion, the Emperor Song consecrated the Dao from Lam Xuyen district to Kien Khang, and together with his disciples trained in teaching to debate, the Dao Donor here broke the opposing arguments. When Emperor Song Wen heard that Taoism had subjugated opposing doctrines, he patted his chair to express his joy. Lesson 46 THE TWO GREAT FOLLOWS OF THE LIFE TAN Buddhism in China before the Dong Tan period was very childish, apart from the translation of the scriptures, there was nothing special about it, since Dao An and later La ten Thanh transmission to the north, Hue Vien An In the south of the country, one side is moving and the other is pure like a flower blooming and fragrant, both are brilliant. However, Hue Vien, who originally focused on calmly reciting the Buddha's name without making a difference, but Giac sage and friend Hue Vien accepted this policy, now lists the points of disagreement between La Cross and Giac sian to clearly see the situation of Buddhism. at the time. first. Regarding the doctrine of the La Cross, who tried to propagate the Space School of Long Tho, it was argued that all dharmas in the world were empty, because it meant that all dharmas should not be established. The three thousand disciples of the La Cross all adhered to the above doctrine, and the tradition spread widely everywhere. Later, from the doctrine of the Khong sect, the La Cross sect, formed three major sects, namely Zen Buddhism, Thien Thai School and Three Commentaries. Giac sage translated the Hoa Nghiem Sutra, although this sutra is not his propaganda teaching, but in the sutra there is an idealistic theory of the Three Realms, in agreement with scholarly psychology translated by Giac sage himself. This theory was developed and handed down, eventually forming three major sects, namely Hoa Nghiem Buddhism, Vipassana Buddhism and Zen Buddhism. One side is not one on the right, although there is a difference, but the meaning of meditation both of them did not meet. 2. Relating to the law of suspicion. Although La Cross advocated no detail, but later cooperated with Phat Nha da la to translate the Ten Laws and propagate this Law, at that time all the clergy practiced according to the Code. At that time, Giac sian also translated the Sangha Law, although the practice was not equal to the Ten Chanting Laws, but for the precepts between La Cross and Giac sage there could not be no relationship between each other. 3. Relating to meditation. La Cross and Giac sien both have translated the scriptures related to meditation as mentioned in the previous lesson. However, Giac sien is an expert in meditation, La Cross is an expert in wisdom, each of them has unique points. Therefore, it was later divided into two factions, in which the relationship of meditation between the two is only known briefly. Considering between La Cross and Giac sage there is a deep friendship, but each of His personalities is different. Therefore, the policy of propaganda also has different points. Initially, when Giac sage came to China, met when Dao Qin worshiped Buddhism, the prestige of La Cross resounded everywhere, Giac sage went straight to Truong An La cross with great joy, often together with Giac sage to study the causes. There is no disagreement in depth. Only the situation and personality between Giac sage and La Cross are completely different, Giac sage adheres to the law of decency and prefers to stay away from urban hustle and bustle, focusing only on teaching his disciples. There are up to three thousand La Cross disciples who often go back and forth to the place of the noble and the noble to cultivate human resources, while Giac sage likes to practice meditation, not paying attention to the deeds of the La Cross disciples. One day, the sage Giac told his disciples: "Yesterday, when I saw my homeland, all five boats came back" (creating native incense, five silver sentences), His disciples spread that word, causing the disciples of La Cross to think that Giac Sage deliberately deceived the masses. In the disciple Giac sian, there were people who fabricated false truths. Hien did not have time to verify and spread the word, causing him to encounter slander and defamation, and unexpected events happened. By the way, between the two, they tried to argue, making Giac sage not satisfied. Following the advice of Mr. Dao, Hien said: "Even though my body is floating, I still haven't changed my will before and after, only regret that my ambition has not been fulfilled but a painful thing happened", so he brought his disciples. Hue Quan and more than 40 people left Truong An, the god was only clear and his face did not change at all, the intellectuals advised him to stay, and thousands of monks sent him off. Giac sien left Truong An and entered Lo Son to cooperate with Hue Vien like water mixed with milk, because both of them advocated to stay away from the place of nobility, respect the law of etiquette, and hereby combined to form the center of Buddhism in the south. The predestined relationship between La Cross and Giac sien is not only different in terms of precepts, but also geographically between the two North and South regions, so the doctrine of Zen philosophy is also divided into two major sects. . Lesson 47 DAO AN AND HUE VIEN DAO An, a Fu consort, orphaned at 12 years old, orphaned by his parents, due to his ugly appearance, he was not loved by his teacher. He worked hard for a few years, but he was always diligent and uncaring. Tired, every time he reads and chants thousands of words, he is very surprised. After receiving the full precepts, he went to the capital city of Karma, met the Buddhas and respected them as teachers. The Buddhists scoffed at the sutras and asked Dao An to come up and preach again. At that time, everyone said: "All Taoists alarmed the four states" After traveling to many places, he went to Hang Son Thai to set up a temple. During the reign of Tan Vo Emperor Ninh Khang, the first year he met the Thach Thi rebellion, he brought Hue Vien with more than 400 people to Tuong Duong, used the house donated by Truong An to build a pagoda, built a five-story tower, increased the room to 400 and named it Dan Pagoda. Khe. Phu Kien captured Xiangyang and was told by Daoan: "We will fight against Xiangyang with a hundred thousand troops and capture one and a half people, Daoan is a slag sculptor is half a man". At Truong An Dao Annotating the sutras with twenty-two volumes, he was the first sutra commentator in China. In the sixth year of the Vinh family, Lo humbly invited Dao An to preach the sutras, and the audience filled the whole city, so that he could know about the success of his religion. The Buddhist sadhana was not completed until the Dao An period. Dao An is famous for his strict precepts, and in the preface to the Ajah Sutra he writes: "From now on, I hope to be blessed by the power of the Three Jewels, to make every action in accordance with the precepts, that is the most urgent thing of a cultivator, the words of advice kindly ask everyone not to neglect to out of the ear", wrote, "These two sutras, thanks to the blessings of the bodhisattvas, can see the present nature of the mind. Just as anyone who has the intention of looking down on him and not paying attention to it, he hopes to meet a comrade who is with me, so that he can make a wonderful roar that resonates with the Dharma." His life rules are very strict, Dao An enjoys a 72-year-old life. Dao An's disciple, Hue Vien from Nhan Mon, at the age of twenty left home to study with Dao An, and attained the Mahayana robe. When Tuong Duong was in turmoil, he went from Dao An to Kinh Chau, on the way through La Phu, he stopped at Tam Duong, seeing the peaceful scenery of Lo Son, he stayed at Son Yin. At that time, his fellow disciple, Hue Vinh, was at the Tay Lam Pagoda, and Hue Vinh encouraged Thu Thi Hoan Y to build the Dong Lam Pagoda and invite Hue to be the abbot. By the way, hermits such as Luu mii, Loi Thu Ton… along with fellow monks, Hue Vien combined with the 123 founders of Bach Lien Commune. He authored the Dharma-nature theory to promote the theory of permanent Nirvana, and again wrote the samana without respecting the regal as a living standard for contemporary monks. Hue has lived in Lo Son for thirty years, but has never been out of the mountain, seeing off guests, taking Ho Khe as the limit. The Buddhadharma in Chang'an at that time was as brilliant as spring flowers. Lo Son is the opposite of the boring landscape, but Hue Vien likes to stay away from the nobility, advocates not worshiping the regal, promoting the peculiarities of Southern Buddhism. For example, the leisure of a dry tree in late autumn, this is the reason to tolerate Giac sage. Considering between Huiyuan and La ten, their level of practice is equal. Again, he sent his disciple, the French leader, to go to the West to seek the Dharma to pursue a career in translation, and Hue Vien's propaganda work was extremely prosperous. One day, the disciple was seriously ill, brought medicine and alcohol, he told him to violate the precepts, so he did not use it. The disciples asked him to use some medicine and alcohol mixed with honey. He was also afraid of breaking the law, and sent his disciples to bring the legal documents to check half a page. then president. At the age of 83, he had a will: "After I pass away, I will take my body to the forest to treat it like a plant". Therefore, Lo Son's legacy later took the seriousness as the basis, by this we can see how Vien Cong is a man of strict precepts. Lesson 48 Dao Born and Tri Nghiem Dao was born with the surname Wei of the Cu Loc people, before the French nun Truc retired from the home life and then entered the Lo Son hermitage for seven years, dedicated to studying the scriptures; Later, with Hue Nghiem, Hue Rui went to Truong An to study with La Cross. Since coming to the imperial capital, he has stayed at Thanh Son pagoda before writing the Second Deposition, the Buddha Nature always dwells, the Dharma body has no form, and the Buddha has no pure land. Readers are attached to the text, causing many doubts and fears, the most terrifying is the set of Tun Enlightenment into Buddhism. Next to the six books of Nirvana that had just been transmitted to the Capital (Chang An), Dao Born explained the meaning of the scriptures, set up the meaning of Xi'an to become Buddha, at that time the great function (the full version of Nirvana) was not translated, causing the Fellow students do not accept this theory, claiming that it is a false doctrine that causes Dao birth to be expelled. Dao was born in Binh Giang, Ho Khe mountain, preaching the Nirvana Sutra, set up a rock as an audience, and when he came to the section where there was Buddha nature, he asked, "Is it compatible with the Buddha's mind as I say?" The rocks all nodded. After that, he returned to Lo Son to stay in Toa scene. At that time, Dam went to thunder in Northern Luong and finished translating the entire version of Nirvana. When the sutra was sent to the south, the scholars who opposed it were all ashamed. Continuing the thought of Donating Enlightenment to become a Buddha of Dao Born with a Dao Consecration as mentioned in the previous article, in addition to Dao Don, Tri Lam and his disciple Phap Bao at Long Quang Pagoda also organized this thought. In addition, Hue Quan also had the previous work of Don Enlightenment into the Buddha Meaning, the disciple of which was the Dharma Hoan and was summoned by Emperor Van to this palace to preach. Prime Minister Ha Thuong Chi listened to Phap Hoan's lecture and said, "Even though he has lost his words, when he listens to Sanhgong's teachings, he knows that he has never died". At the end of the Song Dynasty in the Yuan year, there was Dam Vo who was also the person who attained enlightenment, so when Emperor Wen heard this, he could guess that this thought had been passed on to the Qi and Luong dynasties. Inheriting the Giac sian Zen lineage, there were two people, Tri Nghiem and Huyen Cao, Tri Nghiem from Ke Tan followed Giac sian back to China, when Giac sian went to the south, Tri Nghiem went to Son Dong to practice meditation. Song Luu obeyed King Tan's orders to bring troops to Truong An to destroy Dao Qin. On the way back to Son Dong, he met Tri Nghiem, a story of Cao Sang recorded this story: "In that vihara there were three monks sitting on a bed, peaceful and calm. People who entered the meditation still did not know, followed the example of the king, and the king entered the vihara, the king licked his fingernails and the three of them opened their eyes, then closed their eyes and asked without answering, the king asked loudly to invite the three to come back. but they did not agree, finally invited Tri Nghiem, together with Luu Tu returned to Kien Khang, at first stayed at Thi Hung Pagoda, Vuong Hoi built Chi Vien pagoda for Tri Nghiem and invited him to be the abbot. The two remaining people in the Shandong vihara are definitely Giac sien's disciples, unfortunately their names are not recorded." While Giac sage was at Thach Duong Truong An pagoda, Huyen Cao came to be a disciple and received the meditation practice. After Huyen went to the hidden mountain of Mach Zen in the West to practice meditation, there were more than 300 disciples. When Huyen Cao was in Western Qin, two monks saw that Huyen Cao was respected by many people, so they were jealous and slandered. Causing him to move to Lam Duong mountain in Ha Bac. The comrade in the direction of Zen transmission with Huyen Cao was Dam Hoang in Manchu, when he heard that Huyen Cao was slandered, he did not care about the far distance to personally come to the Qin country to whitewash. Therefore, Huyen Cao was forgiven and went to Hau Luong. Emperor Wei entered the Later Liang to invite him to Pengcheng Bei Wei to be a teacher of the Crown Prince Huang, and in the end he was in trouble and died It is also due to the fault of being close to the nobility that brought disaster. There are more than a few thousand followers of Huyen Cao, among more than a hundred famous ones, Huyen Sieu is the first, so it is possible to know that the Giac sage meditation stream was spread from here. The beginning of this line of meditation, along with the Dao-born Buddhist doctrine of Doan Enlightenment, are related to each other. Lesson 49 ORIGIN OF Taoism and Similarities When recounting the history of Buddhism in China, we should understand the origins of Taoism, because there are often conflicts between Buddhism and Taoism. It is impossible not to summarize the origin of Taoism. Taoism begins with the theory of Lao Tzu, but this theory is only one aspect, the other aspect is based on the superstition of the social infrastructure, that is, on Lao Tzu's calm Nihilism theory, produces the idea of a super-secular immortal, who is combined with the beliefs of other deities in the secular world. In addition to the method of asking for immortality, it also uses healing methods, witchcraft, spells ... so it can be said that the starting point of Chinese Taoism is starting from the thought of a fairy. The origin of fairy thought is very difficult to explain clearly. But this is the starting point of Chinese religious development. Great to believe in the idea of a fairy that most ordinary Chinese people believe in. Moreover, from time immemorial, Taoism wanted to expand cultivation, so it combined with Lao Tzu theory to worship Lao Tzu as the first founder of the gods, later Lao Tzu went to the west. died, posterity believed that Lao Tzu was born in heaven, and at the same time believed that after a while he would descend to the lower world, to transmit to the followers the secret methods ... that is called Thai Thuong Lao Quan. The idea of a fairy was born very early. The era of the Three Emperors and Five Emperors was popular, Qin Shi Huang, who unified the continent, was very devoted to fairies, and once sent Tru Phuoc to the sea to find the elixir of immortality. The Han Martial Emperor is also so trusting that he acts in a dishonest way without even knowing it. The fairies were successful, because of this their influence was growing stronger, making some form of religion completed, lest in the Later Han period, Taoism was formed at the same time as Buddhism was transmitted to China. In fact, the origin of Taoism must have been since the time of Truong Dao Lang, Lang in Ke Vien mountain in Thuc land, was the founder of Taoism. After the retreat from the village of Truc Chau, he claimed that he had received secret messages from Thai Thuong Lao Quan, which made many stupid people believe. At that time, the ruling policy of the Han Dynasty was not stable, the son of Dao Lang, Truong Cung and his nephew Truong Ngu, tried to propagate Taoism, and the enemy Hoang Truong Truong Giac also belonged to this sect. Since then, although Taoism has changed and reformed, most of it is only worshiped by the people of the world. Buddhism was introduced to China, the first conflict was caused by the word Taoism, but Buddhism has many similarities with Taoism. Due to Buddhist studies and the doctrine of Old age, they all share the same principle of transcendence and transcendence. The people who studied Buddhism in the Tan period, most of them learned through the thought of Lao Trang, so the language and language… also have many similarities with Taoism. During the Jin Dynasty, there was a great turmoil, everyone was filled with hatred and sadness, so they turned to the old age doctrine to seek peace. When Dao An and Huiyuan appeared, while La Cross propagates the principle of voidness and formlessness, the language is somewhat similar to the theory of nature without action, but the organization of teachings, explanations of the scriptures, and methods of practice are different from those of the theory of hope and desire. Old Zhuang, should have gathered scholars who abandoned Taoism to convert to Buddhism. On this occasion, Taoism tried to imitate Buddhist teachings, for example, in Buddhism, there is the theory of the three bodies, they established the meaning of One qi and the three sounds, and even created a set of Lao Tzu and the Ho Kinh. burned in the Ming Dynasty). In Hoang Minh episode, there is Thien Chanh maddening commentary on this fact, and in the Confucianism Luc also mentioned. Considering Lao Tzu's transformation of the Ho Kinh was prepared by Vuong Phu of the Western Dynasty, between Vuong Phu and Buddhists From the Dharma, there were often debates about the issue of wrongdoing, Vuong Phu was always subdued, generating anger and creating resentment. out commentary. Lesson 50 Taoism AGAINST BUDDHISM. BAC WII BUDDHISM Taoism mobilized the imperial court, causing Buddhism to suffer criticism twice before and after, it was the destruction of Buddha by the Northern Wei Emperor and the Northern Wei Emperor, now talking about the Buddha's destruction of the Buddha. Northern Emperor. Northern Wei is now Shandong province, King Dao Martial is very devoted to Buddhism, once built temples and granted the rank of Patriarch. In my life, I became a Thai martial artist, because of the Taoist's movement to destroy the Buddha, my mind was contrary to the legacy of the ancestors. But in the beginning, due to the sound of the ancestors, Thai Martial also invited the high monks of Zen virtue such as Quan Cao and Huyen Cao to be the teacher of Crown Prince Hoang, at that time there was a private mandarin, Thoi Hao, who was very devoted to the Daoist Khau Khiem Chi. , King Thai To liked Lao Trang books, morning and evening research, so Cui Hao often persuaded the work of Taoist immortalization, think that the theory of Buddhism is obscure, harmful to everyone. Traditionally, Thai martial arts did not understand Buddhism, so they believed in the words of Cui Hao. Changing the era name is Thai Binh Chan Quan, meeting when Cai Tu revolted, Thai Vo personally brought troops to Truong An, happened to see in a certain temple storing cooking utensils, accumulating money of up to ten thousand dollars, Living extravagantly, Thai To immediately accused the monks of making caves to trap women, storing bows and arrows, and plotting to overthrow the court. Again, when Thoi Hao added a slanderous word, Thai Martial became even more angry, ordered the killing of Truong An monks, and burned a lot of Buddhist scriptures and statues. After returning to Pengcheng, the king issued a decree for the whole country to apply the law such as Truong An, burn pagodas, destroy statues, kill monks and nuns. In the projection there is a passage: "Because the black people do not know, believe in false love or, Nurturing false teachers who store oracles, the ancient samanas borrowed false words from the West, not bringing true teaching and virtue instilling in the world. Now the decree is from the lower king to the poor, if anyone who takes care of a monk is due to expire on February 15 this year, if he does not declare it past the time limit, he will be killed, and the person who has raised him will be removed from the family. ethnic group" (Excerpts from Hoang Minh in the book of Wei Shu). Prince Hoang was very devoted to Buddhism, and because he was afraid that the Crown Prince would later be harmful, he falsely accused the Crown Prince of intending to oppose the court, causing the king to order his death. Huyen Cao, the Prince's teacher, was slashed. The monk Hue worshiped in Duong Chau, the teacher of the minister Vi Van Duc, was also beheaded. This is the law of the North. The traces of Buddhism in the north once ended due to this, in fact, the Thai Binh True Monarch's Dharma tribulation lasted up to seven years. After the death of Emperor Van Thanh, he issued a decree to revive Buddhism. The decree reads: "The ancestor of Thai martial virtue permeates the whole world, as many monks and nuns as forests, but in some pagodas and temples. there was a violent party, the dynasty tried to find out the crimes, but because the mandarins did wrong the king, from now on, there was a complete ban... The merits of Shakyamuni Tathagata spread everywhere, now the district decrees rebuilding temples and pagodas, anyone who has a love for Buddhism accepts them to be ordained.” After Emperor Hien Van ascended the throne, he wholeheartedly protected Buddhism, the king summoned the Taoist Vo My and the shaman to conspire at Dung Giac Pagoda to argue, hating Vo My's lies, ordered him to be executed. save the new barrier from being cut. The Emperor's Constitution decreed to cast a Buddha statue taller than one zhang and six (used up 25,000 pounds of red copper), to create a large pagoda at the Five Levels. Again, at the request of the shaman Tam, to build five stone caves in Thach Bich Son Tay (now System Tri district north of Son Tay), cast Buddha statues in each cave (from 6.7 to 10 inches high), build Vinh Ninh pagoda in Truong An, built a seven-story tower in Bac Dai, cast a massive statue of Shakyamuni in Thien Cung pagoda (43 chains high, used up 100,000 pounds of red copper, 600 pounds of gold), and built a three-story stone tower. 10 zhang high), built Vinh Ninh pagoda tower (30 zhang high) commensurate with Hoa Trang Quan in the capital. During the reign of Emperor Hieu, he believed in protecting Buddhism, and so did Empress Dowager Ho. In the year of Thien Giam of the Luong dynasty, Empress Dowager Ho set up 15 pagodas, erected a 90-foot bell tower at Vinh Ninh pagoda, and the sound of a bell rang ten miles away at night. Buddhism in the North and the West at the time of great ups and downs to be like that.END=NAMO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.18/6/2021.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
